Post Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

New here and to Ubuntu. I have no computer experience. My son gave me his laptop and he installed Lubuntu on it. I am getting use to the laptop after years on a desktop(which he also installed Lubuntu on) I have much to learn and it is frustrating as I do not know computer language. I have lots of questions and my son has gone back home so I am basically on my own.

I hope that I will be able to get help and hopefully it will be in very simple terms.

I am married 30 years, 4 children and one grandchild. Live in NY- state of high taxes, and no large sodas. LOL

I love Johnny Depp, history, hockey and crafts.

Hello All! I am a new guy here, I have installed about 10 distro's on my pc's in an effort to practice the process and find files on bad copies of Widows. So I guess that makes me not quite a noob. I am hoping to learn a lot here. My main goal is to create a server network in my basement to use as my shared storage for my music and pictures. that way I can access it from anywhere and share them with my friends and family.

I look forward to making some good friends here.

    Peace!

Hi all! I just switched from OS X to Ubuntu. My MacMini was becoming very slow and I wanted to switch to a notebook, so I decided to sell my Mac and buy a ThinkPad. A MacBook would have been an alternative, but I'm not willing to pay those prices. Also, I always wanted to see if Linux is something for daily usage. Since I don't play games on my computer, I'm quite happy after two days. Everything seems to be running very well on my ThinkPad.

Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

    Hello Ubuntu community.

I am French and work in an international IT company as development manager.
I am new in there, but using Linux since good ol' Slackware times (1994 actually). Last 10 years I went through Red Hat, Mandrake, Mandriva, then discovered Debian...

At that moment I completely removed Windows from all my PCs. Dual boot time was over! After few years using stable, testing, unstable flavours, I finally moved to Ubuntu (since 9.10 AFAIR). Now all my machines run Ubuntu. I have a Dell Poweredge server running 12.04 LTS, 3 Lenovo laptops (from different generations) running 12.10, one Zotac as HTPC running 12.04 with XBMC on top, 2 RaspberryPIs (humm... those one are actually running Raspbian) and I am eagerly waiting to switch my smartphone to Ubuntu Phone OS

Among all those years I made numerous people switch to Linux and recently more specifically to Ubuntu. I have always pushed at work for Open Source solutions and is seen by my co-workers as the Linux guy.

I really don't know why I never registered to Ubuntu Forums as I found many solutions to some of my problems here along all those years. Shame on me!
