Hello everyone!
Was planning on making an account here, but I was too afraid to do so - these forums look somewhat intimidating at first glance, haha.
Thanks! Will do.
(also, congratulations on your not-so-recent promotion to moderator - I was looking at profiles of red names figuring that they were forum administrators, haha. I actually do have a question sitting in the forums under the Multimedia area of the site - perhaps you can help me out? )
Hi all!!!
I am new here. I love this forum. Here I wish to share knowledge and gain knowledge from you all... Thanks
Greetings Ubuntu-ites . I've posted a couple of times here before, once with an issue and another time just to add my $0.02, but I neglected to properly introduce myself as per proper forum protocol. Sorry about that.
Anyhoo, I should probably tell my story about how I discovered Ubuntu (and Linux in general). Like most, I had grown frustrated with Windows and the fact that it was causing my old Thinkpad (which was given to me by a dear friend of mine when my Gateway PC's motherboard fried) to run excruciatingly slow. Not to mention the fact that the drivers for my wireless adapter were failing. I then remembered hearing about Linux over 10 years ago and decided to see what it was all about. Found Ubuntu, but couldn't get it to work on my old hardware. Fortunately, a coworker (the IT guy at the place I work) had a spindle of Linux CDs. I tried Ubuntu 9.10. Other than a few bugs here and there and an initially frustrating lack of codecs, I was impressed with it.
The fact that it and most of its software are free didn't hurt at all . To end that story, it was running Linux Mint 9 XFCE when it finally gave up the ghost (it was in BAD shape when I got it).
Since then, I've shown Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Zorin OS to friends and family, particularly those who complain about their computers running slow and express the "need" to get a new one. I've managed to convert three people, including my mother (she's using Linux Mint 10... Ubuntu would probably be too alien for her).
Anyways, that's it!

I just love Linux, love ubuntu ,from the first time I know him.
I hope I can help more people with what I have learned from other warmhearted helper.
And I will pay my best to learning and giving, with my not very good English
^_^it comes that I used too many "I"s, no matter what to say. Character!
