Small on screen anomoly on screen when attempting to view boot messages

    Hello,

Recently, I have noticed that when the system is booting and I want to watch the messages, I switch to tty1-tty6 to see if there are any messages scrolling. Initially, I see just an small illuminated section at the bottom center of my screen. Eventually, I am taken back to tty7 (Xwindows) and see the ubuntu splash. I can then switch back to one of the virtual terminals however, they all have a prompt except for tty1, then wait a little longer and then tty1 comes up with a login prompt. How can I change this behavior. I'd like to watch the messages like in the old day when I could switch to tty12 to watch them. I know that this was changed for security purposes awhile back. On another note, should I be worried about the small but bright "section" in the bottom middle of all of the virtual terms?

    TIA,

    Skaramanger
