Wired networking problems
It used to be the case that when I'd start my computer up, it would automatically log on to my home network and I could immediately get on-line. Now, when I boot up, the network icon doesn't even show up in the tray. I have to log out and log back in for it to show up there, and then I have to click it to manually connect via Auto eth0. Sometimes I have to physically disconnect the ethernet cable that's connected to my computer from the router and plug it back in to get things working. Please help, and keep in mind that I know little about networking.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit. I'm using a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL router, which is connected to the internet through a cable modem.
