    Maybe because Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 are all based on Windows NT?

    Correct. But if a program failed, it always failed on the same point. Not some "random" point. Most times this whas not MS-DOS fault, but the program's fault.

    Yes, but some early computers (BBC Micro/C64) used is as an OS as well.
