Question UNetbootin and old Distro versions!

    Hi.
I'd like to put Sabayon 5.2 onto a 2GB USB pen in order to install on a PC. However when I opened UNetbootin I noticed the highest version for Sabayon was 4 [picture attached]. Is it worth trying? Otherwise what is the best alternative to UNetbootin? Thanks.

It only takes a couple minutes to give it a try.
    You could also try:
    BootMyISO
    and
    LinuxLive USB Creator

Look at the Diskimage: ISO option on your Unetbootin screen. You can use any ISO that you've downloaded to your hard drive.

I misread the UNetbootin text. The top part is only for downloading. All is fine now. Thanks C.S.Cameron & snowpine.

Question Re: UNetbootin and old Distro versions!

Is it always best to format the USB Pen Drive to fat (msdos)?

I tried to boot up with Sabayon 5.2 from my USB Pen Drive.

    • I hit F8 to enter the quick boot select menu, then chose USB Flash Disk 1100.
    • Then I got some text and a boot prompt like this ~ boot:
    • I waited for a while but nothing happened.
    • I hit enter and it says 'Could not find kernel image: linux'

Here is a picture that may shed some light on this [attached]. What must I do?

    Maybe this will help? http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...b-nice-798254/

Or you could try asking over on the Sabayon forums, I'm sure they know the answer...

Personally I use a Linux filesystem (like ext3) on my thumb drives; you couldn't pay me to use a DOS filesystem.

Okay I will give Ext3 a try. Cheers snowpine. I will check out that link.

Just a further note: I installed Slitaz onto another old pen drive (256MB) with the exact same method and it too started with a screen with some text and a boot: prompt. However after about 3 seconds it booted automatically.

Exclamation Re: UNetbootin and old Distro versions!

So far the only Distro I have installed on a USB Pen Drive is Slitaz. I tried Backtrack 4 and still could not boot.
