Control 2 PCs with single mouse & keyboard

I currently have two systems which ideally I would like to be able to work with from the one mouse and keyboard. As I have to keep an eye on my partners XP system I purchase a UK magazine and in their Q & A page they refer to Input Director where by loading the programme in both systems and designating a master system this can be done.

However they then dash my hopes by stating that they don't support Linux systems. Is there anything similar available for Ubuntu ?

No I am using a wireless keyboard and mouse by Logitech however if by using a wired connection was possible it might be worth it

see if you can connect the two to the one keyboard/ mouse see if you can do that because well that seems to be a logical thing to do

It sounds to me like you want a Keyboard/Video/Mouse (KVM) switch. These are hardware boxes that enable you to hook up one keyboard, mouse, and monitor to multiple computers. You press buttons on the KVM box to switch between computers. (If you want each machine to have its own monitor, you can just leave the monitor out of the mix and use the KVM switch for the keyboard and mouse alone. There may even be boxes designed specifically for this variant configuration, but I've not looked into it specifically.) I've got one of these that I use with three computers, and it works quite well. The biggest problem is that some OSes want to see all their devices attached at boot time or they get misdetected, so I've got to switch over to the target system while it boots rather that let it boot while I use another computer.

I think "synergy" and "quicksynergy" are what you're looking for. Try "apt-cache search synergy", or look here:

    srix

    Many thanks for your reply.

This looks very interesting and should meet my needs. It only now needs me to find a wireless photo printer which will give me the desk space to implement synergy.

I now have another search to complete.

Thanks again for your kind assistance
