Feeling guilty about leaving your computer turned on when you're away? Join http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/index.jsp and put your unused cycles to work solving problems for researchers.
The World Community Grid has a Linux client you can install. When you're not busy, the client works on computing solutions for researchers trying to cure cancer, Dengue fever, AIDS, Muscular Dystrophy, childhood cancer, etc, or produce nutritious rice, clean energy etc. There is an Ubuntu Linux team that you can join when you become part of the grid, or maybe you'd prefer to join an alumni or nation club-- it's up to you. The computing time you're not using can benefit the world. You can choose the projects to which you donate your cycles. Please give it a try.
