    "without digital rights management (DRM)"

At least they got that right. I wonder what, if any, advantages it will offer over Amazon's mp3 store.

What, if any, advantages does it offer over downloading music for free?

That you're likely supporting Canonical (although to what extent hasn't been revealed yet to my knowledge). Also, automatic cloud sync has got to be useful!

Meh, I'm not really feeling comfortable about sending my files to some random server whose operator can do whatever he likes with them.

Canonical uses Amazon's EC2 servers for Ubuntu One.

I've been an itunes customer for years. I look forward to using the Ubuntu store though for sure! I'll buy most of my stuff there if they have what I'm looking for. Mp3 is fine.. itunes plays that too.

I would be interested in .ogg too but itunes doesn't support it. I would like to be able to use both players...

Do you get cover art at Ubuntu Music store? I'm not upgrading to 10.04 until it's fully baked. I'm a chicken.
If at first it doesn't work.. throw a temper tantrum, rant about how it sucks, and hate it forever.

Because Ubuntu is put out by Canonical, and Canonical is a business. It's difficult to make any money by simply giving away what you make. You need to find other revenue streams.

Supporting Canonical and the Artists you like is a good thing.
