ibook g3 resolution

hi.

i installed a minimal ubuntu os onto my ibook g3 and have since installed gnome and a few other things necessary. my problem is screen resolution. im stuck with 800x600 and have tried adding resolutions using xorg.conf file and with xrandr but i cant seem to get it to work.

after adding a resolution in xrandr it says the available resolutions and 1024x768 is one of them but it also says that the max resolution is 800x600.
any ideas?

Have you installed the binary driver from Nvidia? I think the open driver has some issues with widescreen or atleast it did that back when i used it the last time.

Edit: Nevermind. The G3 doesn't use Nvidia graphics. It uses the ATI Rage Mobility which should be well supported.
