New Technology, BIOS to EFI, GUID Partition Table

I did a search to see if the thread had been discussed at all but was unable to find one. It appears that legacy 512 sector technology is limiting further advances in both the BIOS and in larger HDDS.

The article from arstechnica also explains the limitiation regarding 2Terabyte drives. My question is :
Is Ubuntu able to incorporate these changes into the OS, or is this too early to look for any changes that may appear in 2011, 2012 ?
Would anybody like to comment ?

While I have not tried installing Linux on any EFI capable motherboard, looking it up on Wikipedia shows that Linux has been able to boot from it for a while.

What's the status of Lucid installing to a system with EFI. Does the installer create the EFI partition and install a grub image correctly?
