Lightbulb Is it a good idea to have UNR on D600?

So forum, i have an old Dell D600
    512 mb RAM, 40 gigs HDD, 32mb video, 1.2 ghz intel 32bit
I previously had 9.10, it worked pretty good except got laggy and froze when running several programs at once. Lucid Lynx BETA 1 sound doesn't even work. So i just checked netbook remix 9.10 which seems to be pretty good and similar in functionalities, and might fasten up D600,

I just wana know if UNR works on D600, specially the wireless, grafix, sound and performance.

Should run, try it with a live Cd first, or a thumb if it will boot from one. I have a older inspiron 4100 1 gig chip 512 ram and the only problems are the video card is outdated, so the popups in the right corner show as a black square in Lucid but okay in Karmic. I would check the video cards compatibility in the end.

lucid didnt work on mine as well. for the beta version, its pretty buggy. One problem i have is with firefox, sometimes when a page is loading, it gets frozen and i have to force quit. And the sound worked for the first 1-2 hours then just disappeared. pretty funny.

I'm pretty sure if 9.10 worked fine (save the lag that you mentioned) UNR 9.10 will work as well. They're basically the same thing, UNR is just stripped back a bit and with a different UI.

But, as the others said, try booting from a thumb drive first.

I very much doubt you'll get better performance with UNR. You could try Ubuntu with LXDE, or simply a more light weight distro, even Ubuntu's parent, Debian.
