    individual pc.

I suppose, you could create a cron script that will update from the server (automation) that will run... like once per hour.

@carlee i like the sound of the cron script. i need to conserve my time and efforts so if i can manipulate everything from the server that would be ideal.

@spiritof76 what is ooo? sounds interesting...

@Ubername - i was nosing around the User cp and could not find any information concerning a forum group. it was probably staring at me right in the face but did not see it. i was wondering if you could direct me further.

    thanks

    Re: Looking for Ubuntu Mentor

@Carlee - i looked up cron and it looks like a program that executes commands at certain times. it lays dormant in the background until instructed to do something.

    sounds cool.

although i will need to learn a bit of the language required to write the scripts.

    interesting...i like it

    plan update

    need to incorporate cron
    learn how to write scripts
need to figure out how to have the server give students roaming profiles

    questions

server comes with windows server on it. i would like to nuke that and install ubuntu or another solid distribution. after installation is complete how will i need to set up the server?

can i get the server to install ubuntu on all the laptops?

if so, then how? 12 pcs might not take a long time to get set up, but i am also interested in doing this for larger lans.

how do i get the server to give students roaming profiles?

how do i give the students access to various pieces of software on certain days? i would like to be able to go into the server and dictate what software packages will be available to them on a daily basis. that way i will have more control over their focus is. kids are great at not doing what they are supposed to and hiding it...
