Do you think Ubuntu releases have too short a life span

Hey just throwing a question out their. do you think Ubuntu releases have to short a life span (6 months of prime time and an additional 12 of support for non LTS). I would like to see releases every 2 years for regular and 5 for LTS with support for 5 for regular and 10 for LTS. Whats your opinion

I'm of the mind that Ubuntu's release and support schedule is fine.

Well my biggest problem is that i dont think the releases have enough time to mature and become really stable releases. Im running ubuntu jaunty and i still think it needs fixes in some areas.

I like the release schedule currently. If you want stable and mature, just stay with the LTS.

You can use something like CentOS (the cost free version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux) which is only released every two years and is ridiculously stable.

The way I see it the LTS is the stable release and the interim releases are just stepping stones to the next LTS to get new stuff tried out and dialed in. Since it usually takes about 6 months to get an LTS stabilized and then it is good for another 21/2 years this seems to me to be a good way to look at it and a good way to go about it.

I still use Hardy 8.04 as my main OS. IMHO Intrepid Jaunty and Karmic are way too unstable and not supported long enough for dependable long term use. I will most likely move to Lucid six months or so after release or sooner if it seems more stable. I am testing it now on another machine.

Why not Debian Stable? You can't out-Debian Debian.

why arn't you running a long term support version.

personally i would rather the ubuntu devs were spending there time making lucid be great, than patching old releases.
