i3 and intel graphics HD

I'm thinking in buying a new laptop, possibly a Dell Inspiron, which comes by default with Intel core i3 processor and an Integrated Intel Media HD for graphics...

My question is if Ubuntu sopports that processor (if i can install Karmic with it) and if with that Intel Media HD Graphics I can get to work the effects of Compiz and other things like Docky or Cairo-dock...

I have a core i7 and that runs just fine. I would expect the graphics chip to be ok, but have no experience of it.

I may purchase a Dell Inspiron 580 mini-tower with the i3-530 processor and integrated Intel graphics chip. The only information I could find on Ubuntu support for the graphics chip is in the following thread. The chip itself does not appear to be an issue but the graphics may be an problem. Hopefully someone will have some more current information for us.

I found a thread in the Lucid Lynx forum which referenced a Linux Intel Graphics Driver site. It states that the latest driver has "Improved support for Intel HD Graphics (in Intel 2010 Core i7/i5/i3 Processor Series)." So, perhaps Lucid will work.

Thank you very much Daveth and Kaibob, your information was very useful for me, I had been trying to find information about the subject but I was unable and your links and concept were very useful, at least I now know that it works, and we will just have to wait maybe until the stable release of Lucid and use some of the xorg-edgers ppa to get a better support for it, but also that as from now on all new computers will likely come with those processors and integrated decent graphics, plus the fact that intel drivers are open source, we'll have better support...
