We are in dire need of some expert opinions on video card installation, as so far, this has been a bit of a nightmare.

We've purchased a
PNY GeForce FX 5200 256MB 128-bit DDR PCI Video Card for an older pentium computer. Our problem is as follows: When we try to boot into Ubuntu (Karmic) with the new card installed, we get stuck at the "(initramfs)" prompt and have absolutely no idea what to do from here. The other big problem, without the card installed, is that this computer doesn't have any on board graphics and so it won't allow us to install any drivers via Administration>Hardware Drivers.

We suspect that we're going to have to build a custom kernel, but would like to avoid that option like a plague, if at all possible.

Please, if any of you know a work around for this issue, please don't hesitate to post it.

Thanks a tonne everyone. Kirby
