I've followed the advice here, but it seems that my computer crashes anyway the only difference being that no error message is displayed.
Maybe Libcanberra isn't the problem?

Could you be a little more specific on your problem? What exactly is crashing and what do you do to make it crash?
Think carefully before executing commands containing "rm", especially "sudo rm -rf ", if you require more information concerning this matter, read this.
I am an experimenter, give me the most stable OS and I can make it unstable in a few hours.
