Hmmm, hadn't noticed your bumps, sorry. Which distro/version are you using? If you're using older than 11.10,I believe the first thing I'd try is to download and create a liveCD or LiveUSB of a current version of your favorite flavor (Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Mint etc.). If the chipset has kernel support it will work with a LiveCD/LiveUSB install. I believe support for that chip set is built into the kernel starting with 11.10, not on earlier versions hence the need to build drivers. I should be receiving an adapter with an 8188CUS chipset in the next couple days. It'll be interesting to see how it behaves.
