Ubuntu Development Release
Location of Window Buttons

In the new Light-theme, the window controls are now again on the left side https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source...themes/0.1.5.4 The devs should make a final decision and stick to it (and remember that estimated 90% of the reactions to the first screenshots were like .......but the buttons on the left side?! - I don't want no mac clone!!!!) It would be really nice if someone could explain what is finally planed and would also give us the chance to give some input. The whole announcements regarding the new theme look more and more like one big test balloon.

It should be one big bad testing balloon. In that way, the opinions of the testers get heard, otherwise, everything is imposed.

Re: Left - Right - Left ????????

Not only that, but they're not even in "OMG MAC" order.
Maximize, Minimize, Close??

So far there hasn't been an explanation for the change.
As far as right now OMG MAC aside, it requires the user to relearn window management.
What is the benefit that outweighs this requirement?

Some people have asked in the mailing list, no answer yet

Re: Left - Right - Left ????????

Why can't they just have the buttons how we're used to them being, how they have been in every previous release ever? Not only that, but why Max-Min-Close?

Maybe they want to test it out on the users for a bit?

Slightly sarcastically: Ubuntu (and others) should continue to be a Windows clone and keep the buttons on the right. There are only two choices... right or left. So, the new position has to clone somebody.

Re: Left - Right - Left ????????

Why is it that everything design related in Ubuntu seems to be the equivalent of being given a gift, followed by a punch in the face?

They come up with AMAZING notifications, but then don't provide the ability to reposition them. They focus on cleaning up the system tray which is AWESOME but then do so by removing the update-notifier icon. Now they give us a BEAUTIFUL theme, and then make everyone relearn the ordering, and position and basically make a LOAD of theme designers redesign their metacity themes (caused by the ordering, not the location).

I was so excited as well... Now we'll confuse Windows users, and Mac users will laugh at our broken OSX clone

Hopefully it'll change...

EDIT: Of course I'm grateful for the work being done, but why??
