Angry I cannot start mysql because of mysql.sock

I've installed Server 9.10 on a servers and i want to use it as a sniffer for all the traffic on my DMZ, dsniff and urlsnarf work like a charm. i want to install Snort, Acid base and Ntop (i have boxes that i've done this and work like a charm) but you have to install mysql-server 1st which is what i did and i edited my.cnf file for the bind and all was fine until i restarted mysql, now i cannot get to it because it complains that the is no mysql.sock file on the /var/run/mysqld/ folder and this is holding up my progress.

    how can i fix this?

    Thanks in advance
