After a fresh install I startup ubuntu. Now I have a flashing black screen asking for my login info but when I hit the key to type it in it sometimes doesn't go through. Can you guys please help?

Are you able to type in your user name?
It's normal for Linux that the password isn't displayed at all, not even asterisks. Just type it in and hit enter.

Did you install Ubuntu 9.10?
