Ok, so I am pretty new to ubuntu and linux in general. I have a little server that I created that I want to setup for a home file server. Originally I was going to go fileserver and then decided to go ubuntu + samba... I have started having second thoughts. What I want to do is setup a local share of some sort and treat it as a local folder/drive on my win 7 machine... I also at some point want to be able to access this from the net eventually... I am really concerned with security... locally it's kind of whatever, i mean, i was just going to share with windows and so thats not that huge of a deal, but the way i see it, if this thing will be accessible from the net, i should make it as secure as possible....

thoughts?... comments?... suggestions?.....

thanks for any help you guys can give me or even just kick me in the right direction
