    Slow network speeds

I've just started using BackupPC to backup my pc onto a little home server.

The Windows XP PC is on wifi, about 3 metres away from the router, the ubuntu server is on wired. The PC isn't connected by cable because a) theres a floor seperating it from the router and b) the useless router my ISP gave me only has one ethernet port. Im hoping to rectify both those soon, but until then...

I started a backup of one 43gb folder last night around 11:30pm. It is now around 8:30am, and BackupPC is telling me that it is roughly 3% done.

Avaeraged out, that means that its done 1.3 Gb in 9 hours. This is 40Kb/sec (and 2.4Mb/min, 144Mb/hour, etc).

Clearly this is not good enough. What should I change? The windows PC has full signal strength, and can download files off the internet easily at 300Kb/sec.

    What's wrong?

    Thanks!

    Re: Slow network speeds

Well, I just got home and it had finished the backup, giving an average speed at the end of 1.2 Mb/sec. I can definitely live with that!
