Talking open source work = university credits

I just had my request to have my work with Quickshot for the Ubuntu Manual Project, approved as a university course. In other words, I'll be able to dedicate part of my time to work on an open source project, and have that count toward my degree! This is absolutely great, and I urge anyone who is in a similar position as me to give it a shot and see whether or not the same opportunity is available at your university.

Just wanted to share my happiness and see if anyone else has done something similar!

I just saw this. That is really cool! Congratulations on the approval and for choosing this idea for your initial submission. You rock!

I have a "Programming project" module later this semester, I'm definitely giving that a try.

EDIT: By the way, whazt kind of degree are you running for now?

I doubt they'd approve it for my economics degree. Would be nice, though.

It's a bachelor's in something called systems sciences. Basically it's like software engineering, but with a focus on various kinds of systems (economic systems, transaction systems, etc.).

Go for it! In my case, it really helped to have an official project and an official project leader to point to - rather than just saying: "Hey, I want to work on this piece of software". But with your course being more directed towards programming, rather than necessarily getting "work experience", your mileage may vary.
