    Re: Introduce Yourself!

I'll introduce myself to bring it back on topic. I came here because of some of the misinformation which has been posted (I've been here before under another alias). I've used Linux since 2001 and recently switched back to Windows because I prefer it, it's a lot better than it was when I switched away from it 8 years ago. Anyway I decided it was pointless to keep arguing with people over the sake of an OS so I now just post replies in sensible and Help threads when new users need help.

I don't particularly like Ubuntu (or many distros for that case) and usually end up reinstalling Slackware after switching and configuring another distro to my liking. I use CentOS on servers because it does what I want it to and I want to train up and go for RHCE. I did use Kubuntu for a year when 6.06 came out because I wanted to see what all the hype was about, it wasn't a bad release but I ended up erasing it because of the same annoyances which make me not like Debian.

    Re: Introduce Yourself!

I am new here, just this past week. I've been a little surprised by the amount of activity on the boards. I've been reading through the posts quite a bit and it's been helpful from a learning perspective.

Even though I just installed Ubuntu this week, I'm not completely new to Linux. I used Fedora for the last 3 years. I liked it ok, but it didn't really fit what I wanted out of an OS. Plus I was never really comfortable with being the Aplfa tester for Red Hat. Maybe if I was more into developing or looking to establish a career in Linux it may have appealed to me more. And I seemed to have a lot of trouble with the last 2 versions.

I'm a Windows guy at work, system admin, db admin, and Excel specialist, but I really don't like Windows. I think it's the concept of paying high dollars for software that's written well behind the leading edge (because anything else would lose money for MS), for apps that are normal and expected in the home evironment (internet, email, basic business tools, photos, video, etc). I think at the very least a home user should be able to have those basic functions without having to pay hundreds of dollars for software.

...and so, my Linux experiment continues.

    Hi

    I am KIWINZ

I have been with Ubuntu Forums since day one. I have many years IT experience as a senior IT Manager. Prior that experience in Government , Commerce and some areas I am not free to mention.

I have been active in many voluntary organizations.

I am married with three adult sons. I am differently able'd but have recently gone into remission and started a long road back to mobility. But I am a simple Kiwi with simple ambitions.

I am motivated by compassion for others and since my Medical Retirement this has been my focus. Helping others less fortunate.

Shame about your disabilities and that, but it just happens, I'm afraid.

But you're still young at heart, that's the important thing!

Re: Welcome New Members, Introduce Yourself here!

    Hello everybody ^_^

I'm Artificial Intelligence (or just A.I.). I've been messing with Linux since year 2000. As KiwiNZ, I have been here at the ubuntuforums since day one.
I love writing guides and playing video games.

My job is nowhere near IT/tech, as I'm working in a daycare-center for kids between age 5 to 10 and sometimes as a substitue teacher in our local school.
