It looks like my hard drive is going in my wife's laptop, time to upgrade. I figure ill replace hers with mine and buy me a new one any thoughts on which to buy. My machine is an XPS 1530 with a 150 G T 7500 factory install.

Find out if it is a sata or pata drive. Buy a 2.5 inch drive. Toss it in.
Seriously though, they are all the same. People have had bad luck with every brand. You will find some bad reviews for any hard drive you buy.
...That is unless you decide to buy a solid state drive. They are coming way down in price. I hear they are way faster and way more reliable. I have not used one in any of my machines yet, but I think I will upgrade soon.

My current drive is SATA. I was looking online at BestBuy they have good deals on Western Digital. I have a WD external that i have had no problems with but not sure if that would be the same with internal.

Western Digital has a good reputation, as far as I know.

They are the same drives, internal or external.
I wouldn't recommend you buy stuff from best buy. Unless you are truly getting a deal. check www.tigerdirect.com or www.newegg.com for real deals. Or if you have a Fry's Electronics store near you, they have great prices as well.

When IBM still made their own stuff, they had high-quality laptop drives.
They were called Travelstar, and they were designed for the rigors of the laptop life (bumps, thumps, etc)
Several IBM Thinkpads even had accelerometers that could sense a drop onto a hard surface and park the drive heads before damage could be done.
(IBM's Deskstar line was very good also)
Hitachi took over IBM's drive line, and the quality seems to still be there.
