    Lovely. Thanks!

This release is so fast it's scary, haha.

I didn't remove 3.1 from my system and the command in step 4 failed with an error message that the .deb was incompatible with a component of the existing open office install.

This doesn't work. I have a 64 bit machine, and this gives me the crummy 32 bit install.

    Installing the DEB fails.

To get the 64bit .DEB, go here: http://download.openoffice.org/other.html

then follow the OP's instructions. They work well.

    Thank you.

I also HAD to remove OOo 3.1 in order for the last command to work - openoffice.org, openoffice.org-core and openoffice.org-common.

As for 64-bit vs. 32-bit - how can i tell which version I have? What I can see (via apt-cache) is
    openoffice.org3:
    Installed: 3.2.0-12
    Candidate: 3.2.0-12
    Version table:
    *** 3.2.0-12 0
    100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

    Thanks!

I think I'm misunderstanding something... when I download and uncompress the 64-bit deb file, I can't find the file named: "OOO320_m12_native_packed-1_en-US.9483" So I'm unsure how you were able to install OO.

You have to run uname -m, if the output if i686, you have a 32bit system, if 86_64, then 64bit.

Well, substitute what you do find for the name, after all, it's just a folder.
