Exclamation [SOLVED] Volume Extremely Low Toshiba M55

I have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my somewhat old Toshiba M55-S3152 laptop. Everything seems to be working fine so far, except the volume.

9.10 offers limited mixers, but I have turned everything up to 100% - the tool tip that pops up says 0db (if it is lower than 100% it reads in the negative) and I can BARELY hear anything. Tested with both the built in speakers and with headphones. Both are barely audible.

I tried the modification to the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file to no avail.

    Help?

Turns out there was nothing wrong with the volume on the machine. There is a rheostat that I was completely overlooking on the front of the machine.
