I really want to use ubuntu on my alienware m14x but this driver is quite old. Anyone got it to work yet? or have an alternative way of activating alienfx and disabling it?

    [user@alien pyalienfx]$ sudo ./install.py
      File "./install.py", line 29
You are about to instal the software : pyAlienFX !"""

    Hello !

Can you use python 2.7 instead and tell me if it works ?

Otherwise you can start the soft just by typing

    sudo ./pyAlienFX.py

It will work just the same especially because the install script is mainly for ubuntu purposes ! (There is someone working on making a ArchLinux package )

Re: AlienFX Lite (Linux + Windows)

Would this work with the mx14? I installed Ubuntu a while ago, just now using it. I would like to be able to update my keyboard in Ubuntu. I have heard that certain things can ruin the controls, so I am hesitant to try it.
EDIT: I think you already answered my question . I hadn't really read the replies before.

When I click the download link, I get this... "Oops! Google Chrome could not find progger.co.uk"
EDIT: Sorry for double post, I thought someone else had posted after I had.

Re: AlienFX Lite (Linux + Windows)

    Hi,

I was wondering if this could be made to work on an Alienware X51. Tried to look for a USB device, but nothing looks like the hardware lights:

    Code:
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
    Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04ca:0027 Lite-On Technology Corp.
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0461:4d65 Primax Electronics, Ltd
Any idea how to look for the device?

Re: AlienFX Lite (Linux + Windows)

    Hi

It seem to be a totally different technology that is used here ...

normally you should see something like :

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 187c:0522 Alienware Corporation

OR at least some device by the vendor tag : 187c

... I'm not sure it would be easy to adapt it to that model ...

But if you can gather more information on how does the lights works ?
