help with nvidia card

i got a nvidia geforce 8400gs video card and when i try to boot ubuntu with the card in the pci slot it tell me it couldnt mount a bunch of things like dev/?/sda.

it boots up fine with no card in the slot. i have no clue what to do im a noob at this stuff in ubuntu.

and fyi i have a 32bit system with ubuntu 9.10 on it

Sometimes I move the card to a different slot and that fixes it, nothing to lose until the experts wake up.
