    Question Sound Card Reccomendation

    Hi all,

I am looking at purchasing a sound card for my computer and am not sure which one to get. The two main models I am now looking at are the Asus Xonar DS and the Asus Xonar D1, is it worth the extra money for the D1? I will be using it mainly to listen to music, sometimes films and the odd bit of gaming. From what I have researched both cards should work no problem with Ubuntu; I am currently running Ubuntu 9.10.

I would appreciate any advise or maybe there is another sound card that might be more suitable, I was also looking at the Creative Audigy SE? Also would there be a noticeable difference in sound quality over my onboard audio, from what I have researched the answer is mostly yes although it can vary between motherboards as I understand it? My motherboard is an Asus P5Q SE PLUS:

These are the speakers I am thinking of buying to use with the card (Altec Lansing MX5021):

    Thanks is advance.
