Gents:

Running x64-U_8.04.1LTS on AMD_5400/ASUS_m2n/NV7600/HP1300-ptr. The system is fully updated, and has performed without serious issue for years.

While running & printing(parallel-port) an OO spreadsheet calculation I experienced a hard-crash. Screen fixed and KBoard & mouse non-functional so I could not move to another desktop or drop into a text_mode.

I knew no-other-way than a hard <reset> to regain system control. I thought this kind of unrecoverable lock-up was all_but_impossible under Linux. Does this lock-up imply a hardware weakness ? Did I really have another option besides <reset>? I DO share the dual_port HP-prt ( parallel+ usb) with another Ubuntu box tho it was not running at-the-time.
