Can anyone suggest how I can get elinks to open pdfs using xpdf? I know that there are other browsers/pdf programs but I'm using this across the internet and this seems to be the lowest bandwidth option!

Xubuntu from dawn to dusk and beyond
Try making all PDFs open by default with xpdf, or just use the preferences of Firefox, if that is what you use and set the use of xpdf in the Applications tab for Portable Document Format. I have no idea if you can do the same in other web browsers.
