USB Sound Card always full volume

    Hello,
I recently purchased an external USB audio card (this one http://www.overstock.com/Electronics...8/product.html)

All worked fine except the volume that comes out is BLASTING, and changing the master volume does nothing. Individual applications let me change their volume, but this is extremely anoying and often leads to me accidently blasting the room. I found this thread, but it contains no solution (i'm betting on post 6 of that page having the problem napped though)

    Hi DrDanielFC

I got the exact same usb audio card, and unfortunately I'm in the same boat as you
I recently made this bug report but didn't get any real response yet.

Also I did write to C-Media and got this answer:
Kindly inform you that we are only IC supplier, many of manufacturers use our IC in various applications. We may suggest you contacting the device manufacturer directly to find the suitable driver.
That I haven't tried yet though.
I really hope to find an ok solution.
I have also thought about a softvol solution like this. But asound.conf is missing from Karmic so it's not really easy.

Send an email to startech and ask for a linux driver. So now we have two experts on this sound card in linux. Eventually you will get it to work.

The good question is who to contact.
Mine is actually branded Auvisio - Visual Sound Technologies but looks identically to the Startech one.

What I have found (here - though in german) is that a company called Pearl Agency seems to be the one who imports the device.
When I look at the back of my device, there is field LosNr: 70258-PEARL.
DrDanielFC - Does your Startech device also have a similar field on the back?

Also mine is this model: SU-M07-7110

Here is a link to Pearl contact info.
I will try to contact them myself - maybe if you DrDanielFC did the same... ?

You can also open up the device and read the inscriptions on the circuit board and the markings on the big DSP chip. The board was probably made by a third-party manufacturer and then branded by different vendors.
