Sorry. In the OP, I'm on step 'make'.

As a noob, I must ask 'make what'?

    Ok...I didn't read enough...

But now I get an error that no one seems to have run into before, similar to others. This is on an hp pavillion dv9000 and the broadcom driver shows active in 'additional drivers' and wireless looks dead.

    Code:
    KBUILD_NOPEDANTIC=1 make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd`
    make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic'
      LD /home/eric/Downloads/built-in.o
      CC [M] /home/eric/Downloads/src/wl/sys/wl_linux.o
    /home/eric/Downloads/src/wl/sys/wl_linux.c: In function ‘wl_attach’:
/home/eric/Downloads/src/wl/sys/wl_linux.c:486:3: error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_MUTEX’
    make[2]: *** [/home/eric/Downloads/src/wl/sys/wl_linux.o] Error 1
    make[1]: *** [_module_/home/eric/Downloads] Error 2
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic'
    make: *** [all] Error 2
I found this reference to the same on the web, but don't understand what I'm supposed to do since it appears that is a different flavor of linux and there wasn't much explanation.

    Thanks.

    hi,

here is how one turns off those errors regarding "implicit declaration of function 'init_MUTEX'"...
    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...l-2-6-37-3558/

btw. the sta driver was working perfectly for me until a user upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04. then the wireless stopped working.

i followed the instructions here and used the patch on the link to turn off the the compile errors but my wireless is still not working.

    can anyone advise?

    thank you.

just type 'make' in the directory that was created when you unpacked the .gz file. this command runs the Makefile that was created there when you unpacked said .gz file.
