Frostwire is the linux equivalent of Limewire.
Limewire also exists for linux ..
A program called Frostwire is in most of the repos, java based with a limewire feel to it and no annoying pop-ups asking you to upgrade to a proversion

You use either a dual boot system with windows/linux or put a windows system in a virtual machine that runs under your linux system. Just because you use linux doesn't mean you can never use your microsoft products ever again... I mean after all you PAID for them so you might as well use them. Anyway, that's how I feel about it. I stream netflix through a virtualbox that has XP in it... and I use that same box to download music legally with an emusic subscription.
Don't know if this is what you have in mind, but Mindawn has everything in FLAC or OGG format.
