    Can't connect to wired network

I'm at my grandmother's house and I can't hook into her internet via ethernet cable. I plug it in and it tries to connect then it says connection is disconnected. I click on the network manager and it has the connection listed as available, but whenever I click on it it tries for a little while then it says it is disconnected. It was listed as auto eth0 but now it says auto ethernet. I have version 9.10. any thoughts would be appreciated.

Are you connecting to a switch, the router, or directly to modem? If directly to modem, you may need to cycle power on the modem.
