    Lost Boot up Options

The boot up options have gone, the PC booting up into a "Grub" screen and I don't know what to do.
Ubuntu hung up in Open Office and after that I could not boot into Ubuntu ending in 16, nor the recovery version. I managed to access the 14 option but after logging out I could not get back in.
I tired a "Super Grub" boot option, installing via Windows, but on boot up it says the OS is missing!
I can boot up with an Ubuntu CD but am not able to update anything or find the installed version
Any help would be great before I have to do a full install - if that is necessary can I recover any of the files from it before overwriting?

...well you can try reinstalling grub from your live cd before anything else.

Doesn't appear to let me install anything, assume you use Package Manager?

Have reinstalled Grub via terminal, rebooted, open up into "grub rescue". Followed the Boot up from Grub rescue guide and got an error that linux.mod could not be found. Not sure what to do next, have searched but not found answer?
