    strange boot and usb problem

so to keep this short and simple, a little less than a week ago i found my netbook (asus eeepc 900) started randomly booting slowly. i run regular ubuntu 9.04 32 bit and as far as i remember there were no significant changes since before it started acting up. whenever i plug in a usb device, it takes FOREVER for it to utilize it. some flash drives take a full minute before it decides to recognize them.

i've reinstalled hal, the kernel, i've tried the last kernel that was installed, i uninstalled everything i had recently that could have potentially been the problem - nothing works.

the overall performance is fine, it just takes forever to boot. i noticed the part of the boot that takes the longest is when its detecting devices and just before it says "loading kernel modules". i've had ubuntu 9.04 installed on this netbook for about a half year and only now it decides to act up.

    any ideas?
