Webcam produces low resolution video

I am using a Creative NX PD1110 webcam under Karmic (9.10). The webcam is automatically detected with ID 041e:401c. The problem is that the video is restricted to 352x288 and is extremely grainy, which makes it unusable. I've tried it in cheese, skype, mplayer but everytime its the same low quality result. I don't know whether to file a bug report against the program, the driver or something else. Any help would be very welcome.

Oops. Turned out the problem was with the webcam since the same problem occured in a friends computer running Windows XP.

Indeed that is quite a poor webcam you've got there.
I did a quick search of the specifications, and you're correct: 352x288 (CIF)
