I'm sure there's an easier way.....

Okay, I've spent weeks getting my CD collection digitized, loaded it up on my headless server (without X windows), got mt-daapd up and running, indexed the files and can listen to it with rhythmbox but I'm finding that some of the tags are incorrect.

For example, I have k.d. land, K. D. Lang and k. d. lang as well as Alternate, Alternative, Alternative/Indie etc.

I would like to fix these, but the only ones I'm finding are GTK+ based and those only work on your local drive, not networked drives. I've found id3tool but I hate to step through one file at a time.

I'm fairly new to Linux - so I was wondering if it would be possible to write a script that could run through a directory, find all the non k.d. lang entries in Author and just change it to the correct spelling? Where would I look for direction?

Thanks a million!
