digging up an old ESPN360 thread

I found http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=619731 through teh googel.

I'm not concerned with getting it to work. I can get it to work in VirtualBox. However, I'd like to not have to install a Windows VM just for this and the NCAA Tournament. Does anyone know if there is an effort to get Move to make a Linux player? If I wanted to start such an effort, how do you think the best way to go about it would be?

    I got it to work:

...I've now done it on three laptops, so it should work.

This is good information, and better than using a VM, but it misses the point of this particular thread. I don't want a work around. I want Move to get off their *** and give us a native Linux player.

(also, when I did it through WINE I did not get any video playback if I remember correctly, but I did not change the user agent, so I will try that)

Yeah I know, a native player would be nice. But I doubt it'll ever happen. We don't have enough market penetration on the desktop (at least in the U.S., for the foreseeable future) and there's a fear of open platforms from content providers. Someone would probably be able to figure out how to rip the video, if the plugin they provide plays nice with free software distros.

And yeah, I tried a *lot* of trial and error with Wine and Crossover until I figured out the User Agent was the stopping block.

I want to think they aren't that stupid.

Dear Content Providers, people can rip videos on Windows too...
