On
https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/657990 you can find some other kernel options that can be used as a workaround for the issue of booting Linux on Toshiba netbooks with Intel Atom processors.
I got good results on a Toshiba nb300. In BIOS ver. 1.70 I used:
Dynamic CPU Frequency Mode: Dynamic
SATA Controller Mode: AHCI
In
Ubuntu 11.04 with Linux 2.6.38-9.43 I set the following kernel command line:
Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nolapic_timer clocksource=jiffies"
in /etc/default/grub and then run
Code:
sudo update-grub
sudo reboot
There are no problems with playing multimedia.
The following hot keys work fine:
FN + ESC turns the volume on and off
FN + F3 switches the system to Sleep mode (suspend); resumes fine
FN + F5 changes the active display device (LCD or external display)
FN + F6/F7 decreases/increases the display brightness
FN + F10 turns on/off cursor control keys (with grey markings on the keyboard)
FN + F11 turns on/off numeric keypad keys (with grey markings on the keyboard)
FN + 3/4 decreases/increases the output sound volume
The hibernation mode can't be entered by pressing FN + F4 but it can be done through panel or by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and choosing "Hibernate". The resume from the hibernation mode also works fine.
Web camera works fine in cheese and Skype (not tested in other apps).
