and then click on the "Downloads" tab, then choose "BIOS" in the "Refine search by" dropdown menu.

I adapted my instructions above from the readme file that was included with the download.
Is the file still there or am I missing something...?

I just checked and it seemed like it was still there... if not, repost with an email address and I'll send you the file.

So it was the .exe file that was supposed to be extracted. Now I feel sort of stupid. Anyway, problem solved, BIOS updated.

I won't keep my hopes too high though that this would fix my issue of crashing within some time with the dynamic CPU setting.

I got good results on a Toshiba nb300. In BIOS ver. 1.70 I used:
    Dynamic CPU Frequency Mode: Dynamic
    SATA Controller Mode: AHCI

In Ubuntu 11.04 with Linux 2.6.38-9.43 I set the following kernel command line:
    Code:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nolapic_timer clocksource=jiffies"
    in /etc/default/grub and then run
    Code:
    sudo update-grub
    sudo reboot
There are no problems with playing multimedia.
The following hot keys work fine:
FN + ESC turns the volume on and off
FN + F3 switches the system to Sleep mode (suspend); resumes fine
FN + F5 changes the active display device (LCD or external display)
    FN + F6/F7 decreases/increases the display brightness
FN + F10 turns on/off cursor control keys (with grey markings on the keyboard)
FN + F11 turns on/off numeric keypad keys (with grey markings on the keyboard)
FN + 3/4 decreases/increases the output sound volume

The hibernation mode can't be entered by pressing FN + F4 but it can be done through panel or by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and choosing "Hibernate". The resume from the hibernation mode also works fine.

Web camera works fine in cheese and Skype (not tested in other apps).

Just wanted to confirm that this works in my setup (Nb305-n310, Lubuntu 11.10). Suspend works and dynamic mode doesn't seem to crash anymore. Kudos to you rpremuz!

    Hi Chris,

I'm experiencing the same problem as you. "boot:" repeats endlessly and there is no way for me stop it. (Neither hitting "Enter" or "ESC" works) Do you still remember how you solved it?
    Thanks.

    1) sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
    2) Change: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash nohz=off highres=off"
    3) sudo update-grub
    4) sudo reboot now
    5) after reboot, close the lid, wait for orange slow-blinking light
    6) open lid, press power button once, enter password, click on unlock
    7) It works

this will work..like magic it also repair my media playing

    Thread Closed

    Reason:
Necromancy. Old thread put to bed.

If a thread hasn't seen any action for a year then post a new one rather than resurrecting it. Thanks. (10.04 LTS reaches end of life about now and 11.04 died awhile ago so all a bit redundant considering we are at 13.04 and the current LTS is 12.04.)
