Voted for Skype, and i've suggested "FastStone Image Viewer 4.x" to add; it's so a remarkable app... cant live without it (despite a good alternative is gThumb viewer)
Actualy i do use it via wine, and the only other beeing MWeather, a very ligth and easy METAR client/manager

    Re: Survey request and comments

iTunes, yes, for the love of God, please get this ported. It's the only thing tieing me to Windows, as the current generation of iPods don't work correctly with any of the Linux media players.

The funny thing is: I'd completely abandoned Windows before getting my latest iPod, didn't even have it installed on my machine, just Ubuntu. Reading around, everybody was going apeshit over how good iPod support was in Ubuntu: "as good as iTunes under Windows!!! HONEST!!!!", "no need for Windows any more!!! wink wink". Encouraged, I went out and bought the latest iPod touch just before Christmas, only to find that iPod support on Ubuntu is about a year behind the latest version. Nothing would recognise the device: Banshee, Amarok, Rhythmbox, Songbird, some specialist tools for interfacing with iPods --- nothing. I ended up having to install VirtualBox to run an XP image with iTunes for Windows on, just to use the device.

So please, Canonical, for the love of God ignore the nutters threatening to abandon a distribution because iTunes gets ported to it, and finally provide us with some decent support for the iPod.

    Re: Survey request and comments

I don't need any of them and the ones I occasionally use are already available.
    I guess that's why I'm using Ubuntu.
It really has everything I need already.

We would be better off investing in improving open source programs than spending a single fraction of a dime chasing proprietary software vendors.
Actually, it would be quite a scandal for Ubuntu, already accused of not 'giving back'enough, to do so!
I understand this as a well meaning response to a call from newbies but it's not worth it IMO.

Now, I'm not saying proprietary software should not be allowed but that they should enter the market on their own terms with their own money.
If they choose not do, life goes on in Ubuntu land and most of the current users will not miss them.

    Re: Survey request and comments

I can see the appeal of itunes especially to those with ipods, a way to upgrade firmware etc has long been missing.

I would however debate it's necessity with the news of ubuntu's own music app would it not take revenue from this new venture that would actually help ubuntu thrive?

You can keep saying it until you convince yourself, but you'll still be wrong.

    Unfortunately..
I have never seen that on my system. Maybe you should install Ubuntu on a system built for Linux instead of one designed for Windows.

And I am willing to pay for them!

Voted iTunes, cause it's basically the only thing holding me in Windows. And no, Apple devices support in Linux is half-assed, buggy or just simply not existent. With the stance Apple took now it'll never be 100% working. And at the same time I don't understand why it was even included in the survey. "Hi, Apple! Let's port iTunes to Linux!" Yeah....
