VOIP software including video WITHOUT google talk?

Hi guys,


today I'm searching for a good voip client for audio/video calls (ubuntu 9.10).


- Ekiga crashes very often.


- Pidgin and Empathy over XMPP/Google Talk are working like a charm after setting correct audio/video setting via. "gstreamer-properties".

But I am using them with a gmail account - which I personally dislike.



Are there alternative XMPP accounts or VOIP-clients?

There are plenty of public XMPP servers. Here is a partial list. Alternatively if you have a VPS or dedicated server, you can run your own. There are also other clients you can use although so far not many of them support video.

Alternatively there are some SIP (same protocol as Ekiga) clients that support video although I haven't used SIP with video myself. Wikipedia has a list

You can also try this software I've had good luck with it. Its called Voip SIP SDK it provides a powerful and highly versatile solution to add quickly SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) based dial and receive phone calls features in your software applications and websites.

Heh... You might not be technically savvy, but you did seem to put an ad plug into the forum there. The product in question sounds nice, but it looks to be a Windows-only product.
