1 GB would enough, depends what you wish to do.

Using it as a Live CD - Any drive with 700+ MB'S is enough, since you just have to put the CD image on it.

Using it with persistent mode - You can install applications on the remaining space, in this case ~300 MB.

Of course, in this case the 1 GB drive would be enough. Just load the .iso file you wish to use and set it up.

Ubuntu has a page here on downloading a usb here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/In...n/FromUSBStick

BUT, an easier process (which they note on that page) is here: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/create-...sb-in-windows/

I could be mistaken and if I am hope someone corrects me, but the pendrivelinux installation would not allow me to do a 1 gig install, it wanted me to do the 2 gig install, even though it listed a 1 gig as possible.

So, my experience says you need a 2 gig USB, and as noted previously if you want a persistent live usb which you can save settings and data to you may want to find a 4 gig, cost around $10.

    Yes, you can.

1GB is more than enough for ubuntu, if you are not planing to save anything else on the drive.

I always carry a 4GB usb with ubuntu.
