    how to install Heroscribe

I have downloaded the program Heroscribe and don't know how to install it. The zip file contains a jar file but when I double click on it it just wants to extract some files. I am using Ubuntu 9.10. Any help would be great. I have the link below to the program.

    Hi,

I see, I get all the easy ones

I'm just downloading it now - I'll have a 'play' with the install and let you know how I get on.

    Regards,

    Phill.

    << Back ..
Now, I download to my Desktop (stops me losing them)

    1. Download from site to desktop the HeroScribe_1.0pre1.zip
    2. make a folder called hero (Right Click, New Folder)
    3. Drag the zip folder into it
    4. Double Click the hero folder
    5. Right Click the HeroScribe_1.0pre1.zip folder & select 'extract here'
    6. That will create a folder called HeroScribe_1.0pre1, drag that back onto the Desktop
    7. From the terminal (Applications --> Accessories --> Terminal)
      Code:
       cd ./Desktop/HeroScribe_1.0pre1
    8. Code:
       java -jar HeroScribe.jar

Java will kick in, and you'll have the map stuff there in a Java Window.

As to how you use it to edit / look at maps / goblins etc - that's your department - I stop at getting it working - all the menu options seem to work okay.

    Have fun !!

    Regards,

    Phill.

Pass - I'm a terminal person !! - But, I do know what you need if you want to learn a little bit, it is quite easy ..

Ubuntu has a built in system to create shortcuts (which is what you want) and that how to will talk you through doing it all.

Me ? i'd just use the terminal

    Phill.
