    Inspiron E1505

This thing was built solid - several drops, numerous trips, daily transport on my commute, etc. - and it is still going strong. No problem with Ubuntu.

    * Additional bonus = it was one third the price of my buddy's MacBook Pro.

    Dell Lattitude D531

AMD Athlon x2, ATI X1270 video, 2 gigs ram.

Ran 8.10 on it until yesterday. 8.10 installs on this model like it was made for it, video card worked great with ATI's catalyst driver, version 9.3. When upgraded to Jaunty, no more catalyst, open source drivers left me with no 3d. Just went to Karmic, with an upgraded 2.6.32 kernel, and open source drivers. 3D is much better, not perfect, as it was when running Intrepid with the restricted driver, but acceptable. Google earth isn't working, having some problems with a few of the native Linux 3d games, but open source ATI drivers have come a long way from where they were a year ago.

Running a Mini 12 on 9.10. I was nervous and waited to upgrade but glad I did.

Well, only things are I can't get the mic to work and the wireless to go to sleep but part of me likes the challenge.
