Re: What DELL model do you have?

The one Dell laptop I have:

    Dell Inspiron 1420 with
    T2370 dual core 1.73GHz processor
    4GB RAM
    250GB HDD
    Intel GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller
    Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless Interface

It is working fine with Ubuntu 9.04. It worked fine with Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 after a few tweaks for the Broadcom Wireless and the Intel Graphics chips.

I hope to be able to use it for several more years before it dies.

I use it a lot so I will wait until 10.04 is released before upgrading/re-installing again.

Use whatever OS or desktop works for you. Backup your computer regularly, and definitely before upgrading, partitioning, or installing an OS.

No support requests by PM please.

10v netbook on which I installed Karmic. Everything's working wonderfully except for Bluetooth, which I haven't taken the time to figure out.

    I have:

    Core 2 Duo T7200 @ 2Ghz
    120GB HDD
    ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
    15.4" Screen
    2GB RAM

It says on the case it's an Inspiron 6400, but it's somewhat souped up. It's getting old though, I got it near the start of '07. Nearly time for a replacement, methinks

I have a Dell inspiron 6000 that I converted over to Ubuntu. I am about to convert a XPS Studio to Ubuntu. I will post how that turns out it is a dual core 64 bit so I have to download that version of Ubuntu before I do.

Actually i got 2 Inspiron 630M 2gb Ram, vostro 1550 4gb ram both with Ubuntu 9.10, the only problem is with the Inspiron that the wifi led turns on randomly, other than that they work better with ubuntu

Yes, with Linux Mint as the preference, first out in Grub. It has a better menu.

Re: What DELL model do you have?

Running Karmic 32 bit on an Inspiron 1501. Everything worked great until Karmic. Just want to know which particular sin I'm copping all this Karma for? Fails to restore after hibernate so I have to shut down all the time. About 50% of the time when I plug in the charger cable it hibernates automatically as if the battery was dead. Rebooting sets the sound to mute. Boot time is slower than Jaunty - seems to have trouble mounting partitions. Wireless broadband support is pretty flaky compared to Jaunty as well. Hitting escape to abort fsck seems to land you in a recovery shell often enough (they have for the most part fixed that).

I could list many other gripes, but in the end it doesn't seem to matter anymore. As much as you report bugs, link duplicates together etc in launchpad and do whatever you may, no-one seems to care anymore unless you have new hardware.

If 10.04 isn't dramatically better and more stable I'm just going to Debian. At least that works...

"You are using Debian, it is the basis of all Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu.
