Dell Vostro 1500 with NVIDIA gefore 8600M, 3gbs of RAM, Kubuntu Lucid 32bit plymouth works nicely, as does all the hardware in general
"Microsoft Windows: A collection of 32bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16bit patch to an 8bit O.S. originally coded for a 4bit microprocessor written by a 2bit company who cant stand 1 bit of competition." Jargon File 4.4.7

    Studio 1557
    Intel® Core™ i7-820QM processor (1.73GHz, 8MB Cache)
    4GB Dual-channel 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2 x 2GB)
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
    500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 (802.11a/g/n) Half Mini-card
    Dell(TM) Wireless 365 Bluetooth Module

Sound was the only issue that concerned me
HDA Intel - only issue to date - fixed with a tweak to the alsa config file

HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI] - I think this is the sound out via HDMI external video port - haven't had a need to use it.

    Sound recording works

Haven't had a need to use the web cam, firewire or express pci port so can't comment on these.

In Karmic Suspend didn't work when I shut the lid, I added a line to a config file, not sure where but with Lucid suspend just worked.

    Studio XPS 1640

    Core 2 Duo 2.8
    4GB Ram
    ATI 4670

Everything works, even suspend/resume finally. Well 8/10 times at least.

Not happy with sound quality though.

Re: What DELL model do you have?

I have Dell Inspiron Mini 10 (1010). It's a Purple VRS's P3 netbook that I bought. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Kaola and installed Poulsbo driver. Also update the Synaptic Package Manager for BCM (Dell broadcom STA Wireless card). I use USB wireless adapter to access to network to allow Synaptic Package Manager to update its file. Then I rebooted the netbook. Afterward, It works really nicely and BCM wireless card finally turned on and logged into my router quickly.

I had to turn off Update Manager to prevent new Kernel breaking Poulsbo driver. I didn't have choice but to avoid another headaches. It's my 2nd time having Poulsbo driver broken by Update.

It sure sucks tho but at least I got it set for. I would like to burn it to CD (create/customize your Ubuntu then burn it to CD is what I want) So I won't have any headaches trying to download psb driver again.

    suggestion?

    @Purplecatty

It is a pain, but you can unistall psb, install new kernel then reinstall psb.

It took me a while to work out that psb will only install in one kernel at a time.

I chucked my Dell Mini 12 and bought an 11z, and it runs 10.04 without any problems, even suspend/resume. It loads and closes so fast that I rarely use suspend/resume anyway.

Googling around for your card 'linux Intel Corporation 82Q963/Q965 Integrated Graphics' I see a number of people have had issues with that signature card, resolution of graphics etc ... unless something turns up it doesn't look too good for you. Hope something turns up.
Have you tried using 'i915.modeset=1' on the kernel boot line ?

    For me:
429£ dell inspiron 1546, i3-330m, integrated intel graphics, skype webcam working, sound working, wireless (installed prop driver) working, Lucid 10.04 64Bit zips along. downside: My kids keep accidentally hitting the F2 'wireless logo' button which seems to hibernate the system.
10 things about binary you should know.
Some people get it - the rest don't.
